Chronic lack of sleep, allergies and thinning skin can all result in dark circles under the eyes. They can be demoralising to look at in a mirror – especially if you’ve just surfaced after a good eight hours sleep.Their causes can be manifold though. It could simply be down to poor sleep but dark circles – also referred to as eye bags – can also be the natural result of ageing. That’s because as we get older we lose volume in our lower eyelid, mid-face and cheek area, causing an overall ‘slackening’ in our face. But then, those dark circles could also be the result of medications causing skin pigmentation, or of certain allergies and/or skin conditions such as rosacea. Obviously, it’s important to determine the cause before embarking on any treatment regime.
